English Language Development (ELD)

English language development is designed to provide students with consistent, explicit instruction in the vocabulary and language forms of academic English. Academic language proficiency provides the foundation for understanding text, professional composition, and critical academic discourse. Under our program in English language development, Students regularly engage in language practice through a range of reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities.

Students qualify for enrollment in an ELD class by English proficiency evaluation per the Grants Pass School District ELL Plan, (revised 2009). Students that benefit from participation in this class often may have learned the social and conversational language skills to appear fluent in English. Our focus will be to find and close critical gaps in knowledge and vocabulary that are usually not addressed through content area instruction.

The Annual State Report on ELL is an annual publication that is required by ORS 327.016, which reports on financial information for English language learner programs and the objectives and needs of students eligible for and enrolled in ELL programs. The report provides information on the demographics of students in ELL programs in each school district. In addition, this report provides a tool that makes data on ELL's accessible to researchers, media, students, and parents. Review the latest state ELL report.
