Dear Highland families,

Welcome to Highland Elementary, home of the Hawks! I’m Nevin Van Manen and it is my privilege to be your principal. I have been in District 7 for 25 years, with my first 19 as music teacher at Highland and Allen Dale. My wife and I have three sons, and Mrs. Van Manen is also a music teacher at Riverside. I started playing piano when I was 4, and I still love to play any chance I can get.  I also enjoy creating music on my own as well as with other musicians around the Rogue Valley.

At Highland we seek to embrace our students with high regard, engage our students with high levels of support, and empower our students with high expectations.  We are proud of all of our highly qualified and passionate staff who go above and beyond to ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed. We offer a wide variety of extracurricular activities and events, including choir, SMILE club, PTA activities, and music programs to provide our students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success both in and out of the classroom.

This year, we will continue to focus on goals in the areas of academics, behavior, and attendance, and we welcome your support and involvement. We believe that communication and collaboration are key to a successful school year, and we encourage parents and community members to stay involved and engaged in our school.
